Wilpattu

Leopard Haven & Natural Lakes !

Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest and one of its oldest protected areas, spans over 1,300 square kilometers across the northwestern region. The park is renowned for its unique system of natural lakes, known as “villus,” which dot the landscape and provide vital habitats for a diverse range of wildlife. Wilpattu is a sanctuary for the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, with a population density among the highest in the world, as well as sloth bears, elephants, and over 200 bird species. Its dense jungle, grasslands, and wetlands offer a tranquil and immersive safari experience, less frequented by tourists compared to other parks. Additionally, the park holds historical significance, with ancient ruins and artifacts from various periods of history, including sites associated with the legendary Queen Kuweni and Prince Saliya.
